Architectural Floor Plans - Renovations
Graphic Checklist
The following procedure is generally used for graphically illustrating various items of a renovation Project especially if alterations and additions are involved.
- Existing Exterior Walls, Windows, Columns, etc. and Interior Columns, Column Furring, Partitions, Equipment, etc., may be drawn with solid line images with several additional lines (drawn thinner) between the solid lines to give the effect of shading.
- New Walls, Windows, Interior Partitions, Equipment, etc., may be drawn with solid line images as is normally the graphic image for new construction. Therefore this system lends itself particularly well when additions are also part of the renovation work.
Any method that clearly distinguishes "existing work from new work" may be used such as:
- Light lines for existing, heavy lines for new.
- Screened lines for existing, solid lines for new, ect.
In all cases, existing Walls, Windows, Columns, Partitions, Equipment, etc. to be removed may be indicated by dashed lines.
Existing Equipment or portions of Equipment to be removed and relocated may be indicated by outlining the items with dashed lines and filling in with cross-hatching lines.
Relocated Equipment may be indicated by outlining the item with solid lines and filling in with cross-hatching lines.
Existing Doors (and Frames, if applicable) to be removed and relocated may reflect a "Door or Opening Designation," on the Floor Plan, by a single number in a dashed 1/2" diameter circle. The letter "L" or "R" may be added to the number to indicate if the existing Door is a right hand or left hand Door. On the Floor Plan where the new location of the Door is shown, the standard "Door or Opening Designation" shall be used and the Door designation number shall be the same number as appears in the dashed circle indicating where the Door was originally taken from.
Alternate system of graphics may be used if additions are not part of the Project and the scope of the renovation work is relatively small compared to the work to remain unchanged.
- Existing Exterior Walls, Windows, Columns, etc., and Interior Columns, Column Furring, Partitions, Equipment, etc. may be drawn with solid line images and a general note indicating that these are existing and are to remain in place, unaltered, unless otherwise indicated.
- New Walls, Windows, Interior Partitions, Equipment, may be indicated by solid lines with several additional lines ( drawn thinner) between the solid lines to give the effect of shading.
A clear Legend of Symbols shall clarify all graphics used.
Make use of "Reference Designation" Symbol (hexagon) for repetitive information to be conveyed. Also clarify Reference Designations.
Refer to all items previously listed under "Architectural Floor Plans."
