Indication of North

  1. Indications of North should appear on all Floor Plans, Partial Floor Plans, Location Maps, Site Surveys, Demolition Plans, Site Plans, Grading Plans, Drainage Plans, Paving Plans, Roof Plans, Reflected Ceiling Plans, Landscaping Plans, etc., including Structural, Mechanical, and Electrical Drawings of the same nature.

  2. If True North is of such an orientation from the Drawing Sheet Grid Lines, such that the direction may be used to indicate True North and at the same time be used for communication to unquestionably define the North, South, East, and West portions of the building or site, etc., use Symbol No. 1 which indicates True North and Plan North as "one in the same."

  3. If True North is of such an orientation from the Drawing Sheet Grid Lines, such that if the direction were used for communication also, it would be questionable as to what side of the building or site, etc., was referred to as North, South, East, or West, use Symbol No. 2 which indicates True North and separately indicates Plan North. Such an orientation that would cause communication to be questionable, would be between 22-1/2 degrees and 67-1/2 degrees from the Drawing Sheet Grid Lines.

  4. If possible, North should be orientated toward the top of the Drawing Sheet.

  5. If possible, orientation of all Drawings on all Sheets should be the same.
