Roof Plan: Re-Roofing
Checklist
Indication of north.
If a Column Reference Grid can be established for existing conditions, reflect it on Roof Plan (for communication).
Dimensions of major shapes of the Roof (use "plus or minus").
Existing and new roof slopes, high and low points, ridges and valleys, crickets, cants, changes in plane, etc.
Gutters and Leaders, Scuppers, Expansion Joints, Area Dividers, Sign Supports, Exhaust Fans, Smoke Vents, Heat Vents, Roof Relief Vents, Dryer Vents, Gravity Vents, Boiler Flues, A/C Unit Vents, Hot Water Heater Flues, Outside Air Intake Hoods, Skylights, Roof Hatches, A/C Equipment, Piping, Piping Supports, Piping Hoods, Roof Drains, Lightning Protection Equipment, Walkways, Communication Equipment, Ductwork, Ductwork Supports, Window Washing Equipment, Splash Blocks, Splash Pans, Elevator Penthouses, Over-rides, Stair Enclosures, Electrical Equipment, etc.
Photograph all items on Roof that require work.
- Arrange Photographs on the front side of a polyester film carrier sheet.
- Secure a matte film positive of the carrier sheet.
- Add notes, instructions, etc. to clarify work to be done.
- Key Photographs to Roof Plan by the use of "Elevation Designations" on the Roof Plan.
- Use "Key Noting" (Reference Designations - Hexagon) for repetitive information.
- Add "Drawing Title Designations" to Roof Plan, Photographs, and Flashing Details.
- Label Photographs - "Pictorial View of-------."
- Clarify and/or detail all new work to be done on the Roof.
- Refer to "National Roofing Contractors Association" recommendations and "SMACNA" Architectural Sheet Metal Manual.
- Refer to Section entitled "Roof Details" for "National Roofing Contractor Associations" partial list of details.
- Clearly distinguish between new and existing materials and work.
- Clarify extent of existing to be removed, existing to be repaired, existing to be replaced with new, etc.
- Indicate items to be removed and returned to their original position after work is done.
- Verify that existing structure can support new roof system if additional weight is imposed on existing structure.
- Verify that existing roof structure will support new equipment on roof.
- Detail new framing for equipment if required.
- If additional water "build-up" is created by adding slopes, verify roof structure is sufficient to care "build-up."
