Roof Plan
Checklist
- Indication of north.
- Column line designations.
- Overall dimensions of building or roof surface (may be shown as "plus or minus").
- Dimensions of Overhangs and Canopies (may be shown as "plus or minus").
- Slope of roof, high and low points, ridges and valleys, crickets, cant strips, changes in plane, etc.
- Coordinate the location of Roof Slopes shown on Roof Plan with Framing Plans.
- Slope of Roofing shall not be less than 1/8" per foot at any part of Roof.
- Gutters and Leaders.
- Relief Scuppers (on all roofs with Parapets and where a build-up of water could occur if Roof Drains do not perform as designed).
- Check that Roof Structure is capable of supporting water "build-up" if drains become inoperative. Coordinate heights of "run-off" or Relief Scuppers with allowable "build-up."
- Expansion Joints and Area Dividers - Investigate the use of Joints or Dividers when the following conditions exist: (may vary slightly for other than "build-up roofing systems").
- Small mass connected to a large mass.
- New construction connected to existing construction.
- Change in direction of framing or deck.
- Continuous mass exceeding 200 feet.
- Refer to National Roofing Contractors Association Recommendations "Hand book of Accepted Roofing Knowledge."
- Signs and Sign Support
- Exhaust Fans, Smoke Vents, Heat Vents, Roof Relief Vents, Dryer Vents, Gravity Vents, Boiler Flues, A/C Unit Vents, Hot Water Heater Flues, Outside Air Intake Hoods, Skylights and Roof Hatches, etc. (Plumbing Vents need not be shown on Roof Plan.)
- A/C Equipment and Platforms, Supports and Stands for equipment.
- Piping on roof, Pipe Roller Supports and Pipe Penetration Hoods.
- Roof Drains and Sumps around drains. Indicate elevation of drain in relation to Perimeter elevations.
- Lightning Protection (if not shown on Consultants Drawings).
- Review Consultants placement of Air Terminals, etc. as not to violate integrity of the Flashing or Roofing Membrane.
- Condensing Unit and Rack for Food Service Equipment Cooler and Freezer.
- Walkway Protection Boards or Concrete Pavers.
- Communications Equipment
- Ductwork and Ductwork Supports and Curb for Supports.
- Window Washing Equipment.
- Splash Blocks or Pans, Ladders.
- Elevator Penthouses, "Over-rides" and Stair enclosures.
- Electrical Equipment such as Generator Mufflers and Exhaust Pipes.
- Designate materials of Roof, Copings, Flashing, Gravel Stops, etc.
- Section designations and references to large scale details.
Note: Items to consider when designing or selecting a Roof Assembly:
- U.L. Rating required
- "U" Value required.
- Drainage System
- Expansion joints and Area dividers.
