Room Designation


  1. Room or Area Number, Room Finish Key, and Ceiling Height should appear on all Floor Plans and Partial Floor Plans of Architectural Drawings.

  2. The rectangle which contains the Room Number, Room Finish Key, and Ceiling Height should be sufficiently high enough to facilitate approximately 1/8" high lettering and sufficiently long enough to facilitate the required information.

  3. Room or Area Number should appear on all Floor Plans and Partial Floor Plans of Consultant Drawings.

  4. If space permits, Room or Area Name should appear on all Floor Plans and Partial Floor Plans. If lack of space on Floor Plans does not permit the use of Room Names, use the Room Number only and clarify the Name of the Room in a separate list appearing on the Floor Plan sheets.

  5. Numbering should start in the lower right hand corner with 101 on the First Floor and continue right to left in an orderly manner. Second Floor numbering should start with 201, Third Floor 301, etc. This is assuming that the Floor Plan contains less than 99 rooms.

  6. If Floor Plan is large but less than 99 rooms and divided into "A," "B," "C," etc., Room Number may reflect that area sections in which it occurs such as AlOl, B140, etc. Number consecutively but leave room for additional numbers between sections.

  7. If Floor Plan contains more than 99 rooms but less than 199 rooms per section per floor use 1-A-1 through 1-A-199, 1-B-1 through 1-B-199, etc.

  8. If Floor Plan contains more than 199 rooms per floor use A-1001, B-1300, C-1500, D-1800. Number consecutively but leave room for additional numbers between sections.

  9. Stairs should be named as Stair #1, #2, etc. and should receive a Room Designation at each floor such as 101, 201, 301, etc.
