Wall Sections

  1. If possible, Wall Sections should be drawn on the Section sheets in such an orientation that when the "Section or Detail Designation" is placed on Floor Plans, the Direction of Cutting Plane is directed toward the top of the sheet for walls which are perpendicular to the top and bottom of the sheet.

  2. If possible, Exterior Wall Sections should be drawn on Section sheets in such an orientation that when the "Section or Detail Designation" is placed on Floor Plans, the Direction of Cutting Plane agrees with the Direction of Cutting Plane used on the Foundation and Framing Plans (Convey this to your Structural Consultant).

  3. The first Wall Section to be drawn should be the "most typical" one and be placed in the lower right hand corner of the drafting sheet leaving sufficient room for dimensions and room to label all materials.

  4. Show foundation and framing (coordinate with Structural Consultant).

  5. All materials "cut in section" should be drawn with authority (strongly outlined).

  6. Show all materials in their proper location and thickness (true to scale).

  7. Dimensions

    1. Overall from floor to roof framing to roof slab.
    2. Intermediate from floor to second floor framing to second floor slab, etc.
    3. Masonry Openings, Foundation Ledges, etc.
    4. Column Line to Exterior Building Line (Label Column Line).
    5. Exterior wall thickness.
    6. Special Configurations.
    7. Any other to clearly define wall system.
  8. Label all materials using the same terminology as the Project Manual

    1. Fully label one (most typical) Wall Section on each sheet with appropriate Specification Reference Numbers. On the remainder of the Wall Sections, on that sheet, materials and label only, note Specification Reference Numbers which have not been covered by the most typical section. On each section, refer to typical section for applicable notes, etc. See item 9b also.
    2. Compacted Fill (Soil)
      1. Vapor barrier, Slab and Foundation, Waterproofing, Approximate grade at Building to agree with Grading Plan, Membrane Flashings, Anchors and Wall Reinforcing, Shelf Angles and Lintels, Insulation, and Sealants and Caulking.
  9. Indicate "Detail Enlargement Designations"

    1. Enlargement Details required of Wall meeting foundation, Window sills, Window heads, Roof edge conditions, Expansion joints, etc.
    2. On Enlargement Details, indicate all material designations, therefore only those materials, not appearing on the Enlargement Details, need to be noted on the Wall Sections.
  10. Each Wall Section shall have the appropriate number, sheet on which the Wall Section is drawn and sheet on which the Wall Section is cut (see Graphic Symbol Sheet).

  11. The following items should be addressed and considered during the development of Wall Sections
    1. Check structural system for interference with ductwork, piping, etc.
    2. Check interference with structural windbracing members.
    3. Fireproofing
      1. Typical details are sufficient, that is, fireproofing need not be shown on all of the Wall Sections as it interferes with the showing of other materials.
    4. Check for dissimilar materials used together.
    5. Insulate underside of interior spaces occurring below exterior slabs.
    6. Check necessary clearances for loading dock canopies.
    7. Coordinate electrical outlets, lights, etc. and Mechanical iterris, hose bids, etc. occurring in walls. Installation details are required.
    8. Refer to SMACNA plates for flashing details.
    9. Indicate perimeter venting of insulation when required.
    10. Control and Expansion Joints.
    11. Clarify Lightning Protection installation details on parapets, roofs, etc.
